BWY Teacher Training Certificate – October 2025

British Wheel Of Yoga Qualification Level 4 certificate in Teaching Yoga

With Sunnah Rose

October 2025 – October 2026

If you have a regular practice and are interested in becoming a Yoga Teacher than this course is for you.

Over this one year training you will be given the opportunity to delve in to asana, anatomy, breath work and the philosophy and history of yoga. You will build knowledge and confidence in all these areas which will not only help develop your personal practice but more importantly you will learn the skills to teach and share this knowledge safely and effectively as a yoga teacher.

This teacher training is regulated by The British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) one of the leading bodies of yoga in the UK and is Ofqual regulated, which means your qualification will be recognised through the UK education system.

I signed up to Sunnah’s yoga teacher training course, but as a working mum with two young children I was concerned I would not have enough time to commit to it. I didn’t need to worry, it’s very manageable and Sunnah is incredibly supportive. I have loved every weekend meeting with my fellow trainees and I have also enjoyed the learning and assignments. You are encouraged to teach from early on, which did wonders to build up my confidence as the course progressed. It’s the perfect mix of anatomy to give you a great understanding on how the body moves, and the philosophy of yoga to broaden your knowledge of the history behind the practice. It has been the best decision, I am now happy and confident to teach yoga thanks to Sunnah’s amazing teaching which has given me the skills I need. She is welcoming, her knowledge is so vast, and she is very supportive throughout the whole process. I cannot recommend this enough for anyone wanting to further their yoga journey. – Katrina

Why this course

Apart from being the highest level of Yoga Teacher Training in the UK what makes this course really special is the fact that you will be encouraged to start teaching quite early on in the course.

Not only will this help build your confidence a a yoga teacher, but will also give you the support you need in the initial stages of your yoga teaching career.

Initially you will start teaching your peers on the course, and this will be ongoing throughout the training.  You will also be encouraged to teach in your community as soon as you and your tutor agree that you are ready.

There will be an Assessed Class Teaching practice within the course where you will be observed and assessed on classes that you have set up. If this is a problem then do speak with your tutor to make other arrangements.

The BWYQ Level 4 Certificate in Yoga Teaching (Regulated Qualifications Framework) can be studied as a progression route on to the Level 4 Diploma in Yoga Teaching (RQF); which is comprised of the first 5 units of the certificate and then 3 further units to achieve the Diploma.

What will be expected of you

  • You will be expected to attend 80% of the course
  • You will be expected to attend a regular yoga class and asked to keep a record and have them signed off. While you will not be assessed on this you will be asked to show it once in a while as evidence of your continuing practice.
  • You will be set homework which will help make up the personal study section of this course. These will include embedding anatomy and physiology through worksheets, handouts and reading. You will be given opportunities to research the philosophy of yoga as well as explore the main books related to yoga including Patanjali Yoga Sutras, Hatha Yoga Pradipika and more….
  • You will also be encouraged to start teaching outside of this course. These will start with simple practices of asana, relaxation and breath work and you will build on this over the months.
  • You will be encouraged to look at asana with a high emphasis on anatomy and physiology and create lesson plans with this in mind.
  • There will be assignments which are part of the assessment process set throughout the training course. These will vary from practical assignments (a teaching practice or presentation) to writing an essay, completing a worksheet, preparing a mini project, or producing a video or audio file, academic poster or infographic. This course aims to offer a choice to students in how they might wish to present their assignments.

The main assignments fall into two categories, formative and summative.

  • Formative assignments are devised by BWYT or the tutor and are not part of the BWYQ assessment requirements, they are for encouragement, guidance and development of the student teacher throughout the course.
  • Summative assignments are formally assessed against the BWYQ qualification assessment criteria and are submitted to the awarding organisation BWYQ. This is an official aspect of the course to evidence attainment in relation to the assessment criteria (benchmark standards) to assess the end product of the learning.

“I completed my teacher training with Sunnah in November 2022 – December 2023.  Wow!  What an amazing experience.  There seemed to be so much work at the beginning which seemed a little overwhelming at first, but Sunnah guided us all so well through this experience in a relaxed and informative way, that was gently dripped bit by bit and easy to follow .  She has a lovely her laid back manner, she is very approachable and is so knowledgeable in the world of yoga, you couldn’t meet a nicer teacher.  If you are contemplating a teacher training course, I cannot recommend Sunnah’s course enough.  I started the course feeling that I just wanted to enhance my own knowledge of yoga and was not particularly thinking I would teach.  However, (and I still can’t quite believe it) 2 months before the end of the course I had set up my own class and am continuing to teach and loving it!!” – Vikki
